The Wolverine Not Rushing to Find a Director

The Wolverine in no hurry to find a director

There are varying reports swirling around this morning that 20th Century Fox is in no hurry to attach another director to its high profile Marvel Studios one-off The Wolverine. As you may know, original director Darren Aronofsky dropped out of the project, concerned that the extended shoot in Japan would keep him away from his son.

Though 20th Century Fox released a statement saying they planned to "regroup and move forward aggressively", a source close to the lingering project is saying otherwise. Apparently, there is no short list of directors being considered at this point in time, and the recent natural disaster in Japan, where much of this story takes place, is causing many unforeseen roadblocks that could stall The Wolverine even further.

Here is what the insider had to say.

"I think we're going to let it air out a bit before we approach another director. The one good thing, after losing Darren and what's going on in Japan, is that we have a great script and the star attached and ready to go."

Director David Slade was next in line to direct The Wolverine, but it was announced on Tuesday that he was taking over directorial reigns on the long-planned Untitled Daredevil Reboot. A day late and a dollar short is what that amounts to. If 20th Century Fox does manage to find a worthy successor to Darren Aronofsky, this one-off could still go into production as early as this summer.

Who do you want to see direct The Wolverine? Most of the eligible candidates are busy at the moment. Coming off of Super, would James Gunn be capable of taking such a huge project on? The Coen Brothers are currently looking for their next project, and they've never done a superhero movie. Winter's Bone director Debra Granik doesn't have anything lined up at the moment. Maybe The Wolverine needs a strong woman's touch? Or maybe they should just bring back original X-Men Origins: Wolverine director Gavin Hood? I know you love that idea.

The Wolverine comes to theaters in 2012 and stars Hugh Jackman.
