The Gangster Squad Replaces Bryan Cranston with Robert Patrick

Robert Patrick replaces Bryan Cranston in The Gangster Squad

Warner Bros. new crime drama The Gangster Squad has added actor Robert Patrick to the cast.

We reported a month ago that Breaking Bad star Bryan Cranston joined the cast, although he has dropped out of the project since then. Robert Patrick is taking his place, portraying Max Kennard, an ambitious LAPD officer who originally hails from Texas.

Ruben Fleischer (30 Minutes or Less, Zombieland) is directing from a screenplay by Will Beall, which is based on a seven-part article series in The Los Angeles Times. The story centers on a high-profile unit of the LAPD in the 1940s, whose mission is to rid the streets of East Coast gangster elements.

It isn't known when production will begin on The Gangster Squad.

The Gangster Squad comes to theaters in 2013 and stars Sean Penn, Josh Brolin, Ryan Gosling, Giovanni Ribisi, Michael Peña, Anthony Mackie, Holt McCallany, Emma Stone. The film is directed by Ruben Fleischer.
