The Dark Knight Rises Extra Dies on the New York City Set

An unidentified extra dies on The Dark Knight Rises set

An unidentified male extra died on the New York City set of The Dark Knight Rises last month after suffering a heart attack. The extra wandered off between rehearsal takes, and was later discovered unconscious. Warner Bros. confirmed the news with a brief statement, which you can read below.

"The studio can confirm that a male extra passed away while on a break during an off-set crowd rehearsal for a sequence with several hundred extras... in early November. Production fully cooperated with the authorities' investigation, which established that he died of natural causes."

The extra was reportedly rehearsing a scene where Bane (Tom Hardy) leads a group of escaped Arkham Asylum convicts in a huge melee scene with the Gotham Police. No principal cast members or filmmakers were present when the heart attack occurred.

This is the third death on a major studio production in the last few months. A stuntman died on the set of The Expendables 2 in October, and a G.I. Joe 2: Retaliation crew member passed away last month.

The Dark Knight Rises comes to theaters July 20th, 2012 and stars Christian Bale, Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, Tom Hardy, Anne Hathaway, Marion Cotillard, Joseph Gordon-Levitt. The film is directed by Christopher Nolan.
