Hot Wheels Moves Forward with Director Simon Crane

Hot Wheels lands director Simon Crane

Legendary Pictures has tapped Simon Crane, a longtime second unit director, to make his feature directorial debut with Hot Wheels.

The studio has also hired screenwriter Paul Attanasio to rewrite the original script by Art Marcum and Matt Holloway (Iron Man). Legendary had initially envisioned this as an edgier project, similar to Universal's Fast & Furious franchise, although they are going in a different direction now.

Joe Roth, Palak Patel and Sam Mercer are producing for Roth Films and Legendary. We reported in August that Hot Wheels was one of several projects Legendary brought over to Universal Pictures after parting ways with Warner Bros., along with Seventh Son, Warcraft, Mass Effect and Cyber.

Simon Crane first made his mark as a stuntman on movies like Batman and Total Recall before transitioning into a stunt coordinator and second unit director. He recently served as second unit director on World War Z, Edge of Tomorrow and Maleficent.

Hot Wheels is in development . The film is directed by Simon Crane.
