San Andreas 3D Writer Allan Loeb Will Pen Bob: The Musical for Disney

Disney has hired Allan Loeb (Rock of Ages) to write their long-gestating Bob: The Musical, which has been in development at the studio since 2004.

The story follows an ordinary man named Bob, who suffers a blow to the head that causes him to hear the inner songs of everyone he meets, essentially turning his life into a musical, although he is not pleased with this new gift.

We first reported on the project in July 2004, when Mark Waters was attached to direct from a script by Mike Binder. The project was stalled until December 2010, when Phil Lord and Chris Miller were in talks to direct. Matthew Fogel signed on to rewrite the script in December 2011, but that was the last we heard about the musical, until now.

Chris Bender, J.C. Spink, Jake Weiner, Beau Flynn and Tripp Vinson are producing, with Frozen's Robert Lopez and Kristin Anderson-Lopez writing the music and lyrics. No production schedule was given.

Allan Loeb's other writing credits include Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps, Just Go with It, Here Comes the Boom, So Undercover and the upcoming San Andreas: 3D.

Bob: The Musical is in development .
