'Jem and the Holograms' Adds Juliette Lewis

Juliette Lewis has signed on for a mysterious role in Universal Pictures and Hasbro's Jem and the Holograms adaptation, which is currently shooting in Los Angeles under the direction of Jon M. Chu.

Aubrey Peeples is playing Jerrica, a young orphaned girl who is transformed into a rock star named Jem with her best friends, and the help of some high-tech earrings. The rest of the Holograms are being played by Stefanie Scott (Kimber), Aurora Perrineau (Shana) and Hayley Kiyoko (Aja). Ryan Guzman is playing Rio, the Holograms' manager and Jem's love interest, and Nathan Moore is portraying the thug Zipper, who works for the manager of the Holograms' rival band, The Misfits.

Ryan Landels wrote the screenplay, with Jason Blum producing through his Blumhouse Productions company alongside Scooter Braun and Hasbro's Brian Goldner, Bennett Schneir and Stephen Davis.

The story will follow the band as they set off on a musical adventure throughout Los Angeles. While it isn't known who Juliette Lewis may be playing yet, it's possible that she could be portraying Jem's artifically intelligent fairy godmother/hologram, Synergy. The actress does have rock star experience herself, fronting her own band Juliette and the Licks until 2009, before going solo.

Juliette Lewis most recently starred in August: Osage County, and she will next be seen in the indie drama Hellion, opening in theaters June 13.

Jem and the Holograms comes to theaters in 2016 and stars Aubrey Peeples, Stefanie Scott, Aurora Perrineau, Hayley Kiyoko, Ryan Guzman, Nathan Moore, Juliette Lewis. The film is directed by Jon M. Chu.
