'X-Men: Days of Future Past' Takes in Massive $261 Million Worldwide


After its whopping $ 36 million opening day on Friday, we have more box office figures for X-Men: Days of Future Past. The superhero sequel, which was directed by Bryan Singer, has taken in an estimated $ 90 million over the three-day weekend, with an additional $ 171 million from international markets for a $ 261 million worldwide haul after just three days.

With the Memorial Day holiday tomorrow, X-Men: Days of Future Past is expected to earn over $ 107 million dometic over the four-day weekend. Last weekend's winner, Godzilla, is expected to earn $ 39.5 million over the extended holiday weekend frame, with the weekend's other new release, Blended, taking in an estimated $ 14 million, battling Neighbors for third place.

X-Men: Days of Future Past, which cost an estimated $ 200 million to produce, opened in 3,996 North American theaters this weekend, and in over 100 foreign countries, including China, Mexico, the U.K. and Russia.

The sequel's $ 90 million three-day weekend falls just short of Marvel's Captain America: The Winter Soldier ($ 95 million), Warner Bros.' Godzilla ($ 93.1 million) and Sony's The Amazing Spider-Man 2 ($ 91.6 million) for the highest three-day opening weekend of the year. X-Men: Days of Future Past also fell just short of X-Men: The Last Stand's three-day opening of $ 102 million on Memorial Day weekend in 2006.

X-Men: Days of Future Past was released May 23rd, 2014 and stars Hugh Jackman, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Halle Berry, Nicholas Hoult, Anna Paquin, Ellen Page. The film is directed by Bryan Singer.
